Remote Croplands

The Remote Cropland anthrome is almost entirely agriculture with no significant human population, few exceptions.  More than half of all the areas designated as remote cropland were > 66% agriculture.  Bare earth and pasture round out these remote spaces.

This anthrome is dominated by savanna, grasslands, and plains, and all of the top five constituent ecoregions are in North America.  The exploitation of these otherwise pristine areas for agriculture is commonplace throughout North America West of the Mississippi River, which has earned the nickname the "bread basket of the world".  It is undoubtedly agribusiness influence that has lead to more remote locations being used for intensive agriculture.
