From August 1990 to August 1991, I lived in Nanjing, China, serving as an
English teacher at Nanjing Agricultural University. During that period, I took
pictures of the university, Nanjing and the surrounding areas, started the first
pizza restaurant in Nanjing with help from friends, and traveled extensively
across China.

China, 1993-1996
From 1993 to 1996, I conducted postdoctoral research at two villages in Jiangsu,
China. I had an apartment in Beijing, at Beijing Agricultural University (now
China Agricultural University), hosted by my advisor for the project, Prof.
Cheng Xu. However, I spent most of my time near Wuxi, Jiangsu, where most
pictures of this set were taken, mostly in Xiejia Village of Wujin County or
Zhangqing Village of Wuxi County.

In the summer of 1999, I was invited to serve as an agroecology consultant for a cross-site meeting of an In Situ Agrobiodiversity Conservation project of the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute (IPGRI). As part of the meeting, we visited agricultural areas around Pokhara, and spent two days in Khatmandu. |
